注1：这就是为什么梯利在早期的著作中经常用经济学上的无差异曲线来分析社会运动和革命中的各种现象的原因(Tilly ,1978) 

注2：奥尔森本人在《集体行动的逻辑》中也没有清楚地说明他的理论仅仅是一个形式理论。读他的书,你会觉得是在读一个形式理论的推导过程,但他在写法上往往会给人以他是在研究一个经验性问题的感觉。这可能是导致后来学者把他的理论当作经验理论来批判的原因之一。 

注3：有些人误把分类当作理论。的确,在自然科学中,一个有效的分类系统(如门捷列夫对化学元素的分类以及生物学中对物种的分类) 不但有理论上和经验上的支持,而且抓住了一类重要现象的内在本质,因此常常是一个理论甚至是一个学科的基础。与自然科学不同,在社会科学中,即使是比较成功的分类概念,如阶级、民族、性别,等等,也达不到自然科学的分类标准。社会现象的复杂性、社会科学家在方法素养上的缺陷,以及社会科学家头脑中意识形态的干扰,都会导致社会科学家提出许多既没有理论和经验支持,也未能抓住事物关键本质的分类方法,并在此基础上建立理论。这就是为什么在社会学中以太式的新概念和分类系统,以及建立在这些概念和分类系统上的理论源源不断地推出,但学科本身的发展却如牛步喘行的原因之一。 

注4：其实,美国的一些学者已经就“物以类聚,人以群分”(homophily) 这一问题做了许多有意义的工作(如Cohen et al . ,2001 :5 - 32 ;McPherson et al . ,2001) 。
